Massive sinkhole swallows city building

Photo descripcion:
In the picture you can see a giant sinkhole larger than a street intersection has swallowed a three-storey building and a house in Guatemala
.

· Summary:

That is a storm that has killed at least 146 people across Central America.

The first-named storm of the 2010 Pacific hurricane season, Agatha hit Guatemala on Saturday, dumping more than one metre of rain in the mountainous west of the country and in neighbouring El Salvador.

As the sun came out, exhausted rescue workers hauled away stones and tree trunks from crushed houses as they fought to reach wounded people and find the dozens still missing.

Other rescuers walked for several hours along muddy tracks to reach trapped villagers and pull them out of collapsed homes.

At least 123 people died in Guatemala and 59 others are missing, according to the government.

Helicopters ferried tents and medical supplies to remote towns on Guatemala's Pacific coast and the first foreign aid began to flow in on Monday.

More than 94,000 people have been evacuated as the storm buried homes under mud and swept away a highway bridge near Guatemala City.

Central America is vulnerable to heavy rains due to its mountainous terrain, while poor communications in rural areas complicate rescue efforts.

summary:

Kelly Sotherton believes Jessica Ennis will break the British heptathlon record in Gotzis, Austria this weekend.

Denise Lewis set the British standard of 6,831 points over a decade ago but Sotherton believes world champion Ennis is on course to smash that mark.

Ennis, who took gold at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin with a personal best of 6,731, has been in scintillating form as she continues her preparations for the European Championships in Barcelona in July.

Most recently she displayed her sprinting prowess when pipping fellow Briton and 400m Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu in the 150m at the Manchester Great City Games on 19 May.

Ennis's main competition at the Gotzis multi-events meeting, which is part of the IAAF World Combined Events Challenge, is likely to come from the Ukraine's reigning Olympic champion Nataliya Dobrynska and World Indoor pentathlon champion Tatyana Chernova of Russia

New summary:

People in the UK have a higher risk of early death than those in many other wealthy countries, a study shows.

While deaths before the age of 60 in the UK have nearly halved in the past 40 years, the rate for women remains similar to Slovenia's and Albania's.

Photo description:
Researchers looked at data, including censuses, death registrations and surveys, to compile the estimated number of early deaths in 187 countries in 1970, 1990 and 2010.
During the period the overall risk fell by 34% in women and 19% in men, reflecting the progress in medicine and rising level of affluence.

South Asia saw the most rapid decline for women and Australasia for men.

Sub-Saharan Africa currently has some of the highest rates with half of people dying early, compared to one-in-20 in some developed countries.

Some parts of the continent even saw rates get worse, reflecting the spread of HIV in recent years, the report said.

The traffic

Every year there is more traffic in the world.
If there are more people, we will need more cars in the world.
If we need more cars we will need more roads to drive.
If we need more roads, there will be more pollution. If we cut roads, there will be fewer cars and pollution.
If there is less traffic, there will more sound.
If there is more traffic, there will be fewer accidents and fewer sound.
If there are fewer cars, there will be fewer accidents.
And then there will be less roads to drive.
If there is less roads, they take longer to arrived in a city
If they take longer to arrived in a city, we will need more cars.

The fashion week in new york

WORLD

In New York there for a week called the new york fashion week.

- Designers produce fashion shows to show off their latest collections. The most recent show was in September 2009 for Spring 2010 Fashion Week. Currently, the shows are sponsored by Mercedes-Benz so they are referred to as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. in the past, they've been referred to by other sponsors such as Olympus Fashion Week.

- New York City in Bryant Park (42nd and Sixth), an 8-acre park that is converted to a temporary fashion arena with tents. The Fashion Week tents are huge, air-conditioned and contain several venues for the designers to show their collections. The individual venues -- ranging up to almost 12,000 square feet -- come complete with runway, seating for attendees, backstage areas, lighting and sound. Some fashion designers choose to have their collections shown in showrooms or other off-site venues during the week.

- When?
Twice a year. The Fashion Week fall shows are held the preceding winter (February). The spring shows are held the preceding late summer (September).

- Who?
Fashion shows are attended by journalists, editors, buyers, celebrities and social types. The Fashion Week shows are invitation-only and each fashion designer is responsible for the guest list. Journalists must seek accreditation prior to the event

- Why?
Fashion Week is an excellent opportunity for American (and a few international) designers -- ranging from Oscar de la Renta to Zac Posen -- to show off their upcoming collections. The fashion shows are often entertaining, accompanied by loud, mood-setting music and changing lighting. The press writes about and photographs the runway collections for newspapers, magazines, internet and television so the general public can see what is going on in fashion.

- History:
Fashion Week is produced by 7th on Sixth, which was originally formed by the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1993, then acquired by IMG -- a lifestyle and sports marketing and management firm -- in 2001.
